The Global City project in Gurugram has received environmental clearance from MoEF

The Haryana government’s ambitious Global City project in Gurugram has received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. This major development was reported by sources to Moneycontrol.

The project is being managed by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) and is located in sectors 36B, 37A, and 37B, close to the newly opened Dwarka Expressway. The Global City will cover about 1,000 acres and will include residential zones, industrial clusters, and commercial areas.

An HSIIDC official mentioned that the environmental clearance is crucial for the project’s growth and will help speed up the work on the ground. The official added that this clearance would also attract more investors and development partners. A public notice about the environmental clearance has been published by HSIIDC.

The Global City project was planned in 2019, and the tender for the first phase was awarded in September 2023. The first phase involves developing infrastructure like roads, electricity, and water supply on 587 acres by December 2026, at an estimated cost of Rs 940 crore. This includes building 13 km of internal roads, a 26-km storm water drain network, a 12-km potable water network, a 12-km recycled water pipeline, landscaping over 82 acres, and a 10-km utility tunnel.

One of the unique features of the Global City will be the “utility tunnel” under the roads. This tunnel will house all utilities, such as water, telecom, and electricity lines. This means there will be no need to dig up roads for repairs or upgrades in the future.

The Global City will also have dedicated pathways for walkers and cyclists. Various public transport options, including the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the Gurugram-Bawal metro corridor, are expected to pass through the city. Interstate and intercity bus terminals will be developed near the township, enhancing connectivity in the region. The city will feature 60-metre-wide arterial roads and 45-metre-wide sub-arterial roads.

Officials explained that the Global City is planned as a self-sufficient township with a focus on modern technology and future-oriented industries. It will include low-carbon green infrastructure, making it environmentally friendly. The project also aims to improve the ease of living for residents by providing top-notch facilities and services. Additionally, the city will focus on skilling people and generating employment opportunities, contributing to the local economy.

Overall, the Global City in Gurugram is set to be a modern, sustainable, and well-connected township that will significantly enhance the region’s infrastructure and livability. The project’s development is a positive step towards creating a futuristic urban space that meets the needs of residents and businesses alike.
